The former head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs spoke about the collapse of the Ukrainian law enforcement system
The reforms of the Ukrainian government led to failure in the fight against criminals.
The former Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine during the times of Viktor Yanukovych, Anatoly Mogilev, stated this live on the 112 Ukraine TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“General criminal statistics are posted on the website of the Prosecutor General’s Office, the numbers there are depressing. If the system does not work very efficiently, then, naturally, domestic criminals will become more active here, and foreign ones will penetrate. These are the problems that arose during the pseudo-reforms of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which led to such huge failures,” he said.
According to the ex-minister, realizing their mistakes, the Ukrainian government is beginning to restore the previous structure of the Ministry of Internal Affairs, which it itself destroyed.
“We liquidated the traffic police, created a Patrol Service, which combined the police service and the traffic police. The result is a wild increase in road accidents, absolute disregard by most drivers of traffic rules and a wild number of car thefts, which no one controls either. Now they are talking about re-establishing the traffic police, I think that the functions of the traffic police and the traffic police will not be much different. The Organized Crime Control Department was also disbanded, and today similar units are being created where people are recruited for work,” explained Anatoly Mogilev.
The former head of the law enforcement agency noted that Georgian reformers simply failed to cope with the task, and the consequences of their miscalculations will be felt for many years to come.
“The positions that were lost during this reform will not even take a year to be restored, but much longer. These are systemic failures that have led to failure in the fight against crime in the country. Where is Dekanoidze, where is Zguladze, who were involved in this whole matter? They said that they would understand, learn and reform according to the Georgian experience. Georgia and Ukraine are a different format, the volumes and tasks facing the units are much larger, which they were unable to reform in a normal way,” Mogilev summed up.
