Former head of the SBU: Events in Belarus are developing badly for Ukraine
Alexander Lukashenko again began to get closer to Russia, the situation is developing badly for Ukraine.
The former head of the SBU and a former participant in the negotiations on Donbass in Minsk, Yevgeny Marchuk, stated this on the TV channel “Ukraine”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
“For Ukraine, the events in Belarus are difficult from the very beginning and, regardless of how the situation in Belarus ends, the outcome for Ukraine will be bad.
Firstly, because this situation brings Lukashenko closer to Putin, although they had difficult stages in their relationship, especially when Russia wanted to forcefully complete the creation of the Union State. Then it didn’t work out, because Lukashenko survived,” Marchuk noted.
He predicts that economic ties with Kiev, which Lukashenko developed despite Russian sanctions imposed against Ukraine, will now, on the contrary, decline.
“In an economic sense, remember, Ukraine and Belarus had annual meetings of leadership and business executives in Chernigov and on the territory of Belarus. Trade turnover with Belarus was increasing, but now it’s not,” says Marchuk.
He believes that under Western sanctions, the Belarusian economy will be even more tied to the Russian Federation.
“For Belarus, taking into account current events in the country, especially how they were received in European countries, I am not sure that the export of Belarusian goods to Europe will increase,” Marchuk concluded.
