Former head of Israel's intelligence service: The Russian aircraft carrier has two important missions in Syria
The transfer of the Russian aircraft carrier Admiral Kuznetsov to the shores of Syria pursues two goals: testing weapons and strengthening the military component. Military-political expert, ex-head of the Israeli intelligence service Nativ, Yakov Kedmi, stated this on EtonTV.

“The Kuznetsov has new systems and new MiG-29KUB and Su-33 aircraft, as well as drones. It is advisable to practice all this at sea. Moreover, the question of whether it needs aircraft carriers is being seriously discussed in Russia. And if so, which ones,” Kedmi said.
The expert noted that testing equipment and weapons at sea is also important for Russia, because it supplies aircraft for aircraft carriers of other countries, including China. Negotiations are underway with India.
“The second problem is purely practical. Kuznetsov and other ships complement the military component in case someone wants to push Russia back and limit its flights and other activities in Syria. An additional 30-40 aircraft that are capable of air combat, plus missile systems, air defense and reconnaissance systems, cool such impulses,” Kedmi said.
He predicts Russia's widespread use of Ka-52 Alligator helicopters and electronic reconnaissance helicopters. Kedmi noted that the Kuznetsov will stay off the coast of Syria for several months, after which it will undergo repairs.
