The former head of the national battalion "Aidar" Sergei Melnichuk, detained the day before by Interpol in Greece at the request of Russia on charges of murder, has been released.
Melnichuk stated this in a specially recorded video message.
“The embassy worked, the lawyer submitted the documents on time, and everything was resolved,” the militant said.
He claims that Russia allegedly fabricated documents about involvement in the murder of Russian TV journalists during the so-called. ATO in 2014. Melnichuk said that he did not consider the dead to be reporters; they, according to him, were members of the Zarya militia battalion that fought against Kyiv, were “among armed people” and were not accredited in Ukraine.
Melnichuk is now threatening to sue “Russian TV channels,” which allegedly “conducted propaganda against him,” and also “engaged in inciting hatred between our countries and collected intelligence data on Ukrainian territory, having entered there illegally.”
“They can be called criminals, not journalists... A criminal case needs to be opened against them, the TV channels and the special services that sent them there, not only in Ukraine, but also in international courts, so that they cannot represent the Russian Federation, including in the European Parliament,” - said the militant.
Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Alexey Zhuravko is outraged by the decision of the Greek court that released Melnichuk. According to the politician, the US Ambassador to Greece Geoffrey Pyatt, who worked in Ukraine during the coup, probably played a key role in the release of the militant.
Melnichuk knew information that was not disclosed in the West about instructors from the United States and EU countries who trained Ukrainian militants already at the first stage of the civil war. He also had information about Georgian mercenaries. Therefore, the Americans simply could not allow his extradition to Russia. This was the main reason for the intercession of the US Embassy, Zhuravko explains.
