The introduction of a UN peacekeeping mission to Donbass is a step forward, but it does not mean either a military or diplomatic victory for Kyiv in the armed conflict.

This opinion was expressed on Radio NV by the former head of the SBU Igor Smeshko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

He noted that the possible deployment of UN peacekeepers to Donbass will not solve the problem.

“Of course, this will be a step forward, but it will not solve the conflict in Donbass. By the way, this is not only my point of view; a similar opinion was expressed by Bolton, the nominee for the position of US National Security Advisor. He said: “Don’t forget that Russia is a permanent member of the National Security Council (apparently, this means the UN Security Council - author). Therefore, in fact, you are launching Russia into this process within the conflict,” Smeshko said.
