The former head of the CIA, who proposed arming Ukraine, was confirmed as the new US Secretary of State
The US Senate on Wednesday approved the candidacy of former CIA head Mike Pompeo for the post of Secretary of State, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

"The US Senate confirms Mike Pompeo as Secretary of State," the statement said.
54 out of 100 senators have already spoken in favor of approving Pompeo’s candidacy, voting continues, Reuters reports. Let us recall that on April 24, the US Senate Foreign Relations Committee approved Pompeo’s candidacy for the post of head of the State Department. Then Pompeo’s candidacy was supported by a majority of 21 senators at a committee meeting.
On March 13, US President Donald Trump fired Rex Tillerson as Secretary of State. Pompeo is known as an anti-Russian hawk. His proposal to arm Ukrainians and Georgians who are “fighting Russia” became widely known, as well as his statement that the time for “soft policy” towards Moscow was over.
