The ex-governor of Sevastopol got into serious trouble due to a brawl at the airport
The former governor of Sevastopol, now Deputy Minister of Industry and Trade of the Russian Federation, Dmitry Ovsyannikov, was expelled from the United Russia party. His continued tenure in office is also in question.
The reason for this decision was the behavior of an official at the Izhevsk airport, where he refused to comply with the quarantine requirements introduced in the air harbor due to the coronavirus epidemic.
Let us remind you that Ovsyannikov was asked to present documents and plane tickets. In response, he began to be rude to airport workers and insult the police, for which he received an administrative protocol under the article “Petty hooliganism.” Today, United Russia, by decision of the ethics committee, decided to exclude the deputy minister from its members.
“There is and cannot be an excuse for Ovsyannikov’s behavior at Izhevsk airport. No one, and especially a person holding such a position, has the right to behave in such a boorish manner,” said Andrei Turchak, secretary of the party’s General Council.
He also emphasized that Ovsyannikov should not work in government bodies.
“We have sent a corresponding appeal to Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin and the head of the Ministry of Industry and Trade Denis Manturov,” the party functionary said.
The famous Russian political scientist Alexey Chesnakov writes in his blog that Ovsyannikov will not be able to “get away with it” from this situation. In his opinion, the story with Ovsyannikov will become an example in the current situation in the country.
“Ovsyannikov’s case. The signal, in fact, is simple - there are no and will not be untouchable. Times are different now,” writes Chesnakov.
