Former Minister of Economy: Ukrainians will become even poorer in 2018
This year, the Ukrainian economy will face a further decline - the hryvnia will continue to depreciate, and goods will rise in price. This forecast was made by the country’s ex-Minister of Economy Viktor Suslov on the NewsOne TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, the inflation levels planned by the government will be much greater than planned.

“The hryvnia is falling quite quickly - we already have an exchange rate of more than 28 hryvnia per dollar, with some fluctuations. The devaluation of the hryvnia means that all imports automatically become more expensive, including gasoline and much more.
Let's look at the state of our trade balance. Last year we already saw that the trade balance was minus seven billion dollars and these indicators will obviously worsen.
This year the government approved an inflation rate of 9%, but it will not be 9%. It is already clear that the inflation rate will be much higher.
Well, plus an active policy of issuing money by the National Bank and the government. All this will cause an acceleration in inflation rates.
It seems to me that the government’s macroeconomic policy is not competent enough, a lot of mistakes are made, and these mistakes will affect the overall rise in prices,” Suslov said.
