The former Minister of Energy voiced gloomy forecasts for the future of Ukraine
No matter what Ukraine does, Nord Stream 2 will be built, and the Ukrainian gas transportation system is not ready to transport renewable energy resources.
Aleksey Orzhel, who served as Minister of Energy of Ukraine in 2019–2020, stated this on air on the Kyiv TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Russians will put the squeeze on Nord Stream 2.” Let's not speak for Europe. Europe knows what it needs, that is, we are constantly trying to promote it. Yes, this is not in the interests of Poland, yes, this is not in the interests of the Baltic countries, this is not in the interests of Ukraine. But Hungary signed, then there is a new interconnector, that is, a new infrastructure is being built around Ukraine. The second point is that they will make the most of these high prices and the crisis, they will offer futures through Nord Stream 2 at lower prices. Argument? Argument,” Orzhel justified.
He also critically commented on statements about the possibility of transporting hydrogen to Europe via the Ukrainian gas transportation system, because the Ukrainian pipeline is capable of transiting only a mixture of hydrogen and gas, which no one needs today.
“Europe is talking about green hydrogen, not about another color of hydrogen, that is, through renewable energy, but we say that we will launch Energoatom. Second point. The GTS is only ready to transport a mixture of hydrogen and gas. Is anyone telling us about the mixture? Do we even have an idea where this mixture is consumed in Europe? It’s when there’s nothing left to say, and then you remember about spaceships, about new billions of trees, about billions of bushes,” the ex-minister sneers.
“So this is an unrealistic prospect, to put it mildly?” – the presenter clarified.
“To put it mildly,” Orzhel confirmed.
