Sergei Arbuzov, the ex-head of the NBU and former Deputy Prime Minister of Ukraine, announced this on his Facebook page.
“The President recently noted the growth of exports to EU countries. In fact, the joy is exaggerated - growth was mainly provided by one group of products and far from being the most technologically advanced. Most other groups are in the red. The entire increase in exports over 6 months to the EU-28 countries was due to one group – oils and fats (+$484 million with a total increase of $457 million). Farmers traded sunflower oil, the market for which is highly concentrated. In the EU, only two countries have most significantly increased purchases of Ukrainian oils and fats – Spain and the Netherlands,” he wrote.
According to him, statistics show that the traditional groups of Ukrainian exports - chemicals, fertilizers and metal products - are still not in demand in Europe.
“The most painful thing is the decline in the export of ferrous metals to the region for the second year in a row (minus 41% last year and minus 5% this year),” the ex-official noted.
