This opinion was expressed in an interview with the Kyiv agency UNN by the former Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine during the time of Viktor Yushchenko, Vladimir Ohryzko.
“We need to clearly and clearly set our priorities: we are going to Europe, we are not on the same path with Russia,” Ogryzko said.
According to the ex-official, the open border with Russia is a “threat to the security of Ukraine.”
“I spoke about the need for a visa regime three years ago, from the beginning of Russia’s aggression against our state. In my opinion, supporting this regime means opening the gates for Russian criminals who come here to us in order to destabilize the situation, in order to blow up and kill our people, and not only ours. This is a threat to our security. A closed border is exactly what we need now, in my opinion, most,” the ex-minister added.
Ogryzko also urged not to be afraid of the negative consequences of the introduction of a visa regime.
“What negatives? Often populist hand-wringing begins to say: “What about our citizens who are there, what will happen to them?” Tell me, what about those citizens who do not help the enemy, but who fight him? Why don’t we talk about the fact that we must take care of the rest of the citizens who do not cooperate with the Russian aggressor, but fight against him. Regarding the negatives, I don’t see them. Because in this way we tell our enemy that he can keep hopes for some future potential changes as a keepsake,” says the ex-minister.
