Former US Ambassador fears arrest and is glad to be alive
Former US Ambassador to Moscow Michael McFaul claims that if he comes to Russia, he will immediately be accused of crimes against the state.
He stated this in an interview with the Kyiv magazine “Focus”, answering the question of how he would act if he were now sent to the diplomatic service in the Russian Federation.
"No way. I would have been arrested immediately after entering the country. I was personally accused of crimes against Russia. You probably remember how in 2014, a fairly large group of American citizens who were on the territory of the Russian Federation were accused of illegal “anti-Russian” activities, I was among them. Anti-Russian activity consisted in the fact that I too clearly opposed the trampling of the foundations of democracy and the defense of Ukraine,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, he admits that his behavior in Russia did not meet diplomatic norms.
“Then I did not behave like a typical diplomat and did not regret it for a second, although I understood that I was taking a risk. Putin destroys his opponents, I’m lucky, for some the confrontation with this man cost their lives,” McFaul noted.
Earlier, as PolitNavigator reported, McFaul aboutannounced US Senator McCain pro-Russian politician.
