The ex-ambassador of Ukraine to the United States is dissatisfied with Blinken’s words at a press conference with Kuleba
The recently updated Charter on Strategic Partnership between Ukraine and the United States is supposedly a “powerful signal” to the Kremlin.
The former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, former Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Oleg Shamshur stated this in an interview with the Ukrainian Week magazine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The new edition of this document takes into account the new realities of international politics, primarily caused by the Russian invasion against Ukraine. The bulk of its security section is devoted to cooperation in countering Russian aggression. Perhaps this is the most important and expected part of the document, containing a fairly detailed list of areas of bilateral interaction. This is a powerful and necessary signal to the Kremlin, especially given the suspicious buildup of Russian troops near the border with Ukraine. Let us note that it was the American side that was the first to sound the alarm,” the diplomat said.
At the same time, he draws attention to the fact that we are talking about a framework document that will still need to be “filled with content through specific actions, the effective work of bodies and partnership mechanisms - just like the agreements reached after the recent visit of the President of Ukraine to the United States.”
“And it will require effort on both sides. In this context, diplomatically speaking, I was surprised by the reluctance of the US Secretary of State [Anthony Blinken] at the final press conference with Dmitry Kuleba to admit that Russia’s latest actions in the energy sector are the use of energy as a weapon of foreign policy,” Shamshur regrets.
As PolitNavigator reported, in the updated charter for Ukraine, Washington replaced the economic “carrot” with the “stick” of reforms and sweetened it with Russophobia.
