The ex-ambassador of Ukraine to the United States predicts difficult times for the hryvnia
The Ukrainian government has decided to depreciate the national currency, which will affect the price of all goods and could result in a sharp drop in the hryvnia.
Former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States (2015-2019) Valeriy Chaly stated this in a conversation on the Obozrevatel-TV channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The position of the National Bank, the position of the authorities today is to gradually release the exchange rate. This is bad for us - prices are rising. The dollar was at 24, now it’s at 28,5. What are our people looking at? To exchange offices and the price of gasoline. And thus, trust in the economic policy of the authorities is formed. This is not entirely correct.
The exchange rate is included in the price of each product. Gasoline is all imported, many goods are imported, whatever you take - the components are imported, any equipment, even that is assembled here, is imported. This means that when the dollar soared, the price for each of us soared.
Secondly, the depreciation of the hryvnia is catastrophically sharp. Remember how the rate dropped from 5 to 8? Such a scenario is not excluded. Therefore, I would advise keeping money in hryvnia, dollar and European currency,” he said.
