Former ambassador to the USA: Putin will not stop restoring the borders of the empire
Russia can legalize the DPR and LPR and send its troops into the territory of the republics under the guise of protecting its citizens.
The former Ambassador of Ukraine to the United States, Valery Chaly, stated this on the radio “Novoe Vremya”, the correspondent of “PolitNavigator” reports.
According to Chaly, the ultimate goal of the Russian leadership is to restore Russia within the borders of the empire.
“You don’t have to physically enter the territory. They can, for example, simply legalize their presence in Donbass - but now they are not there, as they say. And then they will say: “Yes, we were invited by the so-called DPR/LPR, and we came to protect Russian citizens, who were given hundreds of thousands of passports.” That is, in this way they legalize their military presence. Maybe the CSTO will be called conditionally, and as a result they will act, pushing this line of conflict closer to Kyiv,” Chaly said.
He believes that Russian President Vladimir Putin wants to show that he will control countries that were previously part of the Russian Empire.
“He wants to achieve these goals by any means necessary. In this regard, these phantom pains of his over the Soviet Union and the Russian Empire are only intensifying. And the fact that he won’t stop is obvious to me - he needs to be stopped, there is no other way. Only a big price for such aggressive actions can stop Russia,” Chaly said.
