The ex-Prime Minister of Albania threatened to meet Vucic in Tirana with “national protests”
Former Albanian Prime Minister Sali Berisha promised that on December 20, the day of the visit of Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic to the Albanian capital Tirana, there would be nationalist demonstrations in the city.
This is reported Reporters, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
Berisha noted that the mass protests on December 20 in Tirana will be directed against the Open Balkans initiative and “open theft.”
“Thus, the hostile anti-Albanian scenario called “Open Balkans” will be stopped,” said the former prime minister, emphasizing that Tirana will be covered by “national protests.”
Sali Berisha.
Berisha's threats came immediately after it was announced that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic would arrive in Tirana, where the next Open Balkans meeting would take place. The politician, speaking at the People's Assembly, said that if the President of Serbia appears in Albania to meet with Albanian Prime Minister Edi Rama and North Macedonian Prime Minister Zoran Zaev, he will face popular indignation.
Created by the Donald Trump administration, the Open Balkans initiative is designed to economically and infrastructurally integrate the Balkans to create a favorable investment climate in the region. However, Albanian nationalists are sharply opposed to it, fearing that integration with Serbia will lead to the revival of Yugoslavia and the restoration of Belgrade's geopolitical weight. To date, only three Balkan countries have officially supported the initiative - Serbia, Albania and North Macedonia.
