This was stated by the ex-Minister of Defense and ex-Prime Minister of the country, and now the representative of Ukraine in the Tripartite Contact Group for resolving the situation in Donbass, Yevgeny Marchuk on his Facebook page.

“Russia openly supplies both Crimea and the occupied territories of Donbass with a lot of heavy military equipment, mainly of an offensive nature... In my opinion, Russia is simply preparing to celebrate the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence. Perhaps even the same way she did in 2014, only with some adjustments to current realities,” writes Marchuk.

He also noted that “Russia cannot come to terms with the fact that the 25th anniversary of Ukrainian independence should pass normally, so that the leaders of the leading countries of the world would come to Kiev for the celebration.”

“Even if Russia does not risk repeating something like August 2014, the situation it creates with a high probability of serious escalation will inevitably produce a highly hypothetical threat to the personal safety of respected guests and their refusal to come to Kyiv. I think that Russia has already developed and implemented a plan on how to not only spoil, but how to disrupt the celebration of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence,” Marchuk escalates.

According to the ex-prime minister, the upcoming holiday is very symbolic for Ukraine.

“Only for her the importance is completely different - how to disrupt this celebration. Ukraine has been at war with Russia for more than two years. There are defeats - there are also victories. But there is something that none of the European countries have - more than two years of experience in waging war with a nuclear superpower. A specific war, not a traditional one. That is why the symbolism of the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence is a kind of danger for Russia, a dangerous example for itself and for its current satellites,” added the representative of Ukraine in the contact group.

Marchuk also called on Ukrainians to be vigilant and voluntary mobilization.

“Much will also depend on the normal vigilance of citizens. Especially on the eve of August 24th. In my opinion, this is the case when for two or three days every person should feel voluntarily mobilized. Russia will not be able to disrupt the 25th anniversary of Ukraine’s independence,” he concluded.
