The ex-president of Lithuania told how “Putin humiliated Merkel”
The leaders of large countries resolving geopolitical issues, unlike “smaller nations,” are forced to meet with each other and negotiate, no matter how they relate to each other.
The ex-president of Lithuania (2009-2019), an ardent Russophobe, Dalia Grybauskaite, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In a geopolitical sense, there is a responsibility of small countries, there is a responsibility of medium-sized countries, and there is a responsibility of geopolitical countries that influence geopolitical processes.
We saw President Biden's meeting and invitation to talk with Putin. And there are geopolitical issues and interests that, no matter how you think or evaluate, need to be resolved together,” she said.
“That is, these countries are responsible for global world processes and simply ignoring, ignoring those leaders about whom you think critically is still their duty to solve global problems.
We are smaller nations, smaller countries, we can afford to speak more openly, fight more, because our interests are different. We don’t have this burden – geopolitical responsibility,” Grybauskaite reasoned.
“For example, Chancellor Merkel, I’ll tell you my experience of communicating with her. After several meetings over the past 12 years, there were meetings where it was clearly visible that there were elements of humiliation on Putin’s part. And I asked her why are you still dating? And do you know what she answered? I will meet with him, even if I am humiliated, if it leads to peace,” says the ex-president of Lithuania.
