Ex-regional member detained for organizing a bird burial ground
The police detained the owners of the Ukrainian agricultural holding Gavrilovskie Kurchata on suspicion of organizing a bird burial ground and polluting the environment.
This was reported by the press service of the National Police of Ukraine, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
The police estimated environmental damage at 200 million hryvnia.
“The company is engaged in the breeding and production of poultry and other meat products. During the technological process, waste appears that requires processing and disposal.
To save costs, the owners of the “chicken” business organized waste disposal by burying it on land and also creating spontaneous landfills - burial grounds. This method of “processing” poses a great threat to the sanitary and epidemiological well-being and health of residents of adjacent villages, since dangerous compounds created from the decomposition of poultry remains end up in the ground and groundwater,” the report says.
Former deputy from the Party of Regions, owner of the Gavrilovskie Kurchata trademark, Evgeniy Sigal, was detained along with his wife, who is the head of a branch of the enterprise.
According to the Prosecutor General's Office of Ukraine, the detainees were informed of suspicion under several articles of the Criminal Code of Ukraine: Part 1 of Art. 255 (creation of a criminal organization), part 4 of Art. 28 Art. 236 (violation of environmental safety rules), part 4 of Art. 28 hours 2 tbsp. 240 (violation of rules for the protection or use of subsoil).
