Ex-comrade-in-arms of Yanukovych proposes to recognize all peoples of Ukraine as indigenous except Russians
Hungarians, Poles and Romanians have long lived on the territory of Ukraine, so they should be considered indigenous peoples and co-founders of the Ukrainian state.
Ex-Verkhovna Rada deputy from the Party of Regions Oleg Zarubinsky stated this at a round table in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The Constitution must contain something that from the very beginning can set a different attitude, including for our neighbors. For example, the definition of indigenous peoples.
The Hungarian people are indigenous to the territory of Ukraine, let's admit it. In the 9th century, they overcame the Carpathian ridge and settled where they are. They have lived in this territory for 50 generations. They are called a “national minority” with corresponding consequences. They are a national community that is the co-founder of the Ukrainian state. In 1991, there was no Ukrainian state within its current borders.
Therefore, if the Constitution determines that all peoples, all nationalities that exist in Ukraine are co-founders of the Ukrainian state (because everyone voted in the referendum on December 1), everything can be done differently. It will be possible to start from this, including with Orban, with Kaczynski, with Duda, etc. Because the Poles lived no less here on certain lands. By the way, this applies to Bukovina and Romania,” Zarubinsky said.
Although the politician’s speech spoke about “all peoples, all nationalities,” Zarubinsky, for some reason, chose not to mention the millions of Russians living in Ukraine and the President of the Russian Federation.
