Such an extravagant proposal was made by ex-people's deputy from the Party of Regions, former head of the election headquarters of Viktor Yanukovych Taras Chernovol.
“He already had a meeting planned with Putin, we know how it went, he (Macron - Ed.), frankly speaking, mocked Putin. This was a very good sign for us, but after that we still insisted that the meeting needed to take place before the meetings in the Normandy format, because Macron is just entering the top league of European world politics and he is not so well informed about all the intricacies ... of Russian politics. He understands this well in general terms, but he needs to know the details. This meeting was also especially important for us,” Chernovol explained his proposal.
According to Chernovol, Macron’s support is important for Ukraine for a number of reasons.
“... Macron now has a lot of passion and activity. He is eager to prove himself, to show his skills in international politics. He is building a very good personal relationship with Trump, which, for example, Merkel did not manage to do. And in this situation it is interesting for us. In addition, France is one of the most powerful countries in the world... It is also important that Macron, who now has good relations with both Trump and Merkel, acts as a kind of promoter of our idea,” the Kiev agency UNN quotes Chernovol.
