Ex-comrade-in-arms of Yushchenko: We need to put up with Russia, Europe doesn’t love us
Ukraine can only develop in conjunction with Russia - beloved Europe is fenced off from it with quotas and fences. Former Verkhovna Rada deputy Yevgeny Chervonenko said this on TOPINFORM, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to him, bringing nationalist ideology to the revolution was a mistake of the current government.
“I went to the first Maidan, being in Kuchma’s warm bath, for one reason - I wanted to create a country of Western mentality and ideology. This does not mean swearing at the Russians, on whom we depend and where our sales markets are, because Europe loves us so much that it won’t let us in. Everyone goes for themselves...
At the first Maidan, I was one of the first to see that there were many of them who voted for Yanukovych in 2004. And they have their own truth. And then we did not issue a law on the Ukrainian language to light the flame. And I achieved, despite the wild resistance of nationalist-minded politicians, I achieved and made, most importantly, my first visit to Moscow. Do you think out of love for Russia? Out of pragmatism, neighbors are not changed. That's the whole answer. And we didn’t ignite it then, but a civil conflict could have ignited then, well, this conflict, call it whatever you want,” Chervonenko said.
