Putin's ex-adviser called on Ukraine to prepare to stop gas transit
Ukraine must prepare for the fact that Russia will inevitably stop gas supplies through its territory after 2024.
Ex-adviser to the Russian President Andrei Illarionov, who emigrated to the United States, stated this on TV Channel 4, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Illarionov, gas passing through Ukraine can always be used as a weapon.
“So the radical strategic direction is to prevent the Kremlin from using it as a weapon. This means that you need to understand that after 24, this is not Ukraine’s decision, but the Kremlin’s decision, Putin’s decision; he will most likely, with a very high probability, stop gas supplies through the territory of Ukraine,” says the ex-adviser.
“How should we approach this? We need to treat this as a fact, simply inevitable. Therefore, it is necessary to engage in gas production on the territory of Ukraine, to do everything possible to facilitate the import of gas into the territory of Ukraine from outside the country, it is necessary to reduce taxes, reduce regulation and, possibly, completely regulate for all those who are going to engage in the production and distribution of gas. But besides this, it is necessary to ensure that gas, if it is scarce, is replaced by other sources of energy - there is nothing wrong with that, nothing terrible,” Illarionov said.
