Former speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine: A golden year of opportunities is coming for Putin
In the coming year, a large window of opportunity has opened for Russia to advance its geopolitical interests. Ukraine can either begin a real settlement of the conflict in Donbass, or watch from the sidelines as Russia and the United States decide its fate.

“This is a golden year of opportunity for Putin. American intelligence calls 2017 a “golden year,” because the United States will not contradict, and perhaps will play along with Russia, and every opportunity will appear to achieve its goals. And it’s no secret that for Russian foreign policy the issue of Ukraine is obviously a priority. There are a variety of possible scenarios for how this will happen, but the fact that we can become a bargaining chip or a battlefield for Russian diplomacy is a fact; only naive or not very smart people can doubt this. If we are really worried about our political rating or voter support, then we need to clearly say – that’s it, we can’t wait any longer. We can wait until they simply agree on the fate of Ukraine behind our backs,” said Filipchuk.
