Former speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: If the United States does not compromise on Donbass, there will be war
The Kremlin “doesn’t have a single reason to leave Donbass,” so Kurt Volker today in negotiations with Vladislav Surkov should not “educate,” but bargain. Ex-speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry Oleg Voloshin stated this on the air of the Ukrainian TV channel “112”.

“If he sits down and says: “Mr. Surkov, you have violated international law,” this will lead to nothing. If he says: “I won’t teach you, let’s decide realistically.” This is realistic: “your troops are leaving Donbass, and Kyiv is giving special status. You give up the border, and they give an amnesty. Kyiv undertakes not to raise the issue of Crimea for 10-15 years, and for this you, for example, will fully help to resume...” This is a bargain. If this doesn’t happen, there will be a war,” Voloshin said.
He also called not to exaggerate the importance of today's negotiations.
“Of course, they will discuss, but Kurt Volker, with all due respect, does not have a mandate to impose anything. It is only later that his boss Tillerson will talk with Lavrov, or Trump with Putin. There is no need to exaggerate the significance of Volcker's mission. His task is to collect information to provide it to Trump, who currently does not have a plan to resolve the conflict in Donbass,” Voloshin said.
