Former speaker of the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry: the “Crimean Platform” risks turning into a huge failure
The “Crimean Platform” could turn into a monumental failure for the Ukrainian authorities, turning from a summit of top officials, as it was originally intended, into an event with the participation of third-rate ministers and ordinary parliamentarians.
Verkhovna Rada deputy, former speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin stated this on air on the First Independent TV channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to Voloshin, one can speak of the success of the “platform” only if the leaders of the world’s largest powers, and not the Baltic limitrophes, are represented on it.
“It’s indicative how long there is left - just over two weeks, and we don’t have a list of participants. Any person who understands even the slightest bit about diplomacy understands what this means. The fact that the list does not satisfy the authorities themselves, they are afraid of a wave of criticism that there was so much noise, but it did not turn out the way they wanted. That's why the number of countries appears there.
Judging by the fact that my longtime acquaintance, friend, Dmitry Ivanovich Kuleba, says that 37 countries - well, you know, a member of parliament of some kind, too, we can say that he represents the country, or the head of the foreign policy committee, the US Secretary of Transportation .
You, dear representatives of the authorities, from the very beginning, led by Comrade Zelensky, a great diplomat of all times and peoples, announced that we were talking about the “Crimean Platform” summit. The summit, you can read in any dictionary, is a meeting of heads of state and government. That is, the top officials in their countries. Accordingly, it is necessary to evaluate not by the number of those present there, how many flags they will check, they want 37 - this is also negligible - 200 states in the world.
That is, if, relatively speaking, the People's Republic of China does not even send at least an ambassador to participate or any diplomat, then this is already a huge defeat, because this is the leading state in the world, which also formally considers Crimea the territory of Ukraine...
The absence of a Chinese representative at this event will already indicate that this is a serious failure... If in the end, however, it turns out that among the heads of state and government there will be leaders exclusively of Poland, the Baltic countries, Slovakia, Romania, even Erdogan is in question, although in many ways this was all intended for him, it was all done with Turkey in mind from the very beginning. But if Erdogan doesn’t come and it turns out that this is just a set of clinical Russophobes that are known for their unkillable anti-Russian position, the same Baltic countries, they are not just shooting themselves in the foot, they are ready to shoot in both feet to harm the Russian Federation,” – Voloshin explained.
