Ex-speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine: Russophobes in Europe can be counted on one hand
A significant part of European countries would like to restore relations with Russia, but this is hampered by the situation in Ukraine as a result of the American-backed coup d'etat.
Ex-speaker of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Oleg Voloshin stated this on the YouTube channel “TopInform”, reports the correspondent of “PolitNavigator”.
“A significant part of the Russian establishment, led by Putin, is quite pro-Western. And they themselves would like to see Russia in good, close relations with at least Europe. And, in general, this is correct.
I think that if Vladimir Vladimirovich had a different situation with Ukraine, today we would be talking about a strategic alliance between the EU and Russia. Although he would not be openly anti-American,” he noted.
Voloshin explained his opinion by the fact that there are few geopolitical contradictions between Europe and Russia, while cooperation promises considerable benefits.
“If you look at American-Russian interests, we see a lot of clashes. Syria, Venezuela, the same Ukraine, North Korea. And then, Pompeo’s latest visit showed that there are also enough points of contact.
But if you look at the relationship between the EU and Russia, there are very few points where they are really hostile to each other. We will put aside the ardent Russophobes in the Baltics and Poland; throughout the rest of Europe, there is no deep-rooted Russophobia either in society or in the elite. Moreover, Europe has no geopolitical ambitions to pull anyone somewhere. They fully understand that it is more profitable to trade, cooperate, and invest,” the expert concluded.
