Former deputy head of the Ministry of Internal Affairs of Ukraine: Russia is preparing to attack with an army of 5 million
The Russian Armed Forces are going to assemble a five-million-strong army for the Ukrainian front, which will launch an offensive in January.
Former Deputy Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Tigran Avakyan stated this on the video blog of Kyiv political scientist Yuri Romanenko, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Why are we talking about a long-term war? 46 thousand conscripts of the Russian Armed Forces, who were supposed to go into reserve, signed contracts to continue serving. 117 thousand recruits have already been drafted into the army as part of the conscription. And the estimated number of mobilized Russians is 760 thousand. This is quite a serious force. But it's not that.
They began to train combat units, they are trying to conduct combat coordination in the Belgorod, Voronezh regions, and other regions of Russia, mainly in the border regions. And it should also be noted that Russia's strategic military planning is being actively discussed regarding the fact that they need 5 million people to win the war against Ukraine.
They now see that 5 million is a sufficient number that even armed with old weapons from the 60-70s, both small arms and armored vehicles, artillery, howitzer systems, will be able to reverse the capabilities of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, taking into account the level of supplies, which we have now, and during the military campaign of January-February, change the trend of retreat of the Russian Armed Forces,” Avakyan said.
He stressed that Ukraine will have no other choice but to announce a retaliatory mobilization.
“The threat is indeed serious, despite all the oddities. And the 5 million soldiers that they are going to gather must be taken into account, and taken into account economically, in order to withstand retaliatory mobilization, because, it is clear that such mobilization will need to be responded to with some kind of mobilization of our own. There’s no way to cope without this,” explained the ex-Interior Ministry official.
