Expert: “The Bosniaks made the Serbs out to be aggressors in order to exclude them from political life”
Member of the International Independent Commission of Inquiry into the suffering of the Serbs in Sarajevo in 1991–1995, professor of oriental studies, ex-diplomat Darko Tanaskovic spoke in Moscow.
The expert’s online presentation took place within the framework of the II International Conference dedicated to the work of independent commissions in Sarajevo and Srebrenica.
According to the PolitNavigator correspondent, Tanaskovic, having joined the work of the II International Conference “Results of the work of independent international commissions: Serbian victims in the civil war in Sarajevo of 1991–1995 and the victims of all peoples in the Srebrenica region of 1992–1995,” noted that together and his colleagues were subjected to severe criticism, both from Sarajevo and from the West. At the same time, those who criticized did not put forward a single argument against their report, limiting themselves to general accusations of bias and bias.
“Our commission was very harshly criticized, although we adhered exclusively to the facts,” the expert noted. – There are many myths around the events in Bosnia, and the goal of our commission was not to create another myth, because those who criticized said that we were biased and wanted to create our own myth in favor of the Serbs. But this is not so, we did not seek to whitewash anyone, but wanted to present the facts, comprehend them and draw conclusions. Our task was to contribute to creating a true picture of what happened in Sarajevo."
Tanaskovic noted that the report of the Commission on Serbian suffering in Sarajevo, among other things, speaks of the trauma caused by the war in the Balkans, which, in his opinion, is not over yet.
“We unanimously concluded that there was a civil war in Bosnia, and not external aggression by another country. It was the Bosniaks' decision to portray the Serbs as aggressors in order to marginalize them and throw them out of political life. And also to achieve recognition of independence from the international community. After which, in all these events, the theory of military aggression against Bosnia was used,” said a member of the commission.
Typically, the theory of “aggression” against ethnic communities during the collapse of the country, who wished to remain with the metropolis, was used before the war in BiH in Croatia against the Croatian Serbs, and is now actively used in Ukraine, where the Russian Donbass militia is presented as allegedly the Russian army.
