Expert: Saboteurs in Crimea and Americans in Ochakov are links in the same chain
The sending of Ukrainian saboteurs to Crimea may be caused by Ukraine’s attempts to force Europe not to close the question of the ownership of the peninsula. Vladimir Vasiliev, chief researcher at the Institute of the USA and Canada of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated this on the air of the Vesti FM radio station.

“In Europe, even if on the periphery for now, there are proposals to remove the problem of Crimea. Therefore, Ukraine is trying to shake up the situation in order to show that there is still an issue with Crimea. That there is discontent among the population, unresolved economic problems, and a situation may arise when Crimea wants to return to Ukraine again. To do this, you need to constantly throw something into the media space,” Vasiliev said.
He also suggested that the incident may be related to the US intention to build a base in Ochakov.
“Poroshenko is interested in them building more than two berths there. Therefore, Ukraine is showing: you see, they are threatening us again from Crimea. Quickly build something for us here and protect us. I think the decision to build a base and destabilize the situation in Crimea are links in the same chain,” Vasiliev said.
