Expert: The energy infrastructure of the housing and communal services sector of Ukraine has rotted
Ukraine's energy infrastructure is badly deteriorated and needs modernization, but the state does not have the funds and is trying to pass the costs on to consumers, which is why tariffs are rising.
The head of the Union of Utility Consumers Oleg Popenko stated this on the air of Ukrainian Radio, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“In Kyiv last year, for the first time, the lights went out in the metro when transformers burned out at CHPP 5 or CHPP 6. For the first time in the last 30 years. This indicates deterioration of networks, deterioration of transformers, equipment at CHPP 5 and CHPP 6 and not only at them.
The entire infrastructure in Kyiv is worn out. It requires immediate major repairs. And it is physically impossible to do it at the expense of ordinary consumers, you and me. Tens of billions of dollars are needed to create a network in Kyiv alone. And neither Kyiv nor consumers have this money.
But the policy is structured in such a way that for some reason we, the consumers, must pay for everything, and not, for example, the state. In other countries, everything is different, in the same Poland, which modernized the country in 20 years.
Money was allocated there from the state budget, from the EU budget, consumer money was only 5-7%. Unfortunately, we do not listen to the words of people who understand such issues, and they try to shift everything onto us.
The last thing is that last week Ukrenergo tariffs increased by 20% because they did not pay investors in green energy. This means that next year, starting April 1 or May 1, there will be new electricity tariffs for consumers.
Today we pay 1,44 UAH per kilowatt, then we will pay 1,68 UAH, and we will pay more - 2,5 and 3,5 UAH. Because the state makes idiotic decisions that backfire on you and me,” concluded Oleg Popenko.
