Expert: If Russia does not give Ukraine a new gas loan, it will complain to the Stockholm court
Kyiv, April 04 (Navigator, Mikhail Stamm) – Head of East European Gas Analysis Mikhail Korchemkin is confident that Ukraine, for which Gazprom sharply increased the price of gas to $485 per 1 thousand cubic meters, will appeal to the Stockholm arbitration.

“The new gas price does not correspond to market conditions, as Gazprom’s European partners have proven more than once,” the expert told Kommersant. “Almost all of the monopoly’s large consumers in Europe received discounts, retroactive payments and relaxed take-or-pay conditions.” According to the expert, at the new price Ukraine will not be able to pump gas into underground gas storage facilities, and in winter Gazprom will not be able to fulfill its obligations to Europe.
The head of the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine, Yuriy Prodan, proposed yesterday “to use the previously agreed upon opportunity to attract a $2 billion loan from Russia and use all these funds to pay for gas.” We are talking about part of a $15 billion loan that was promised to Viktor Yanukovych (at the end of 2013, Kyiv received only $3 billion).
