Expert: “Four dozen Kosovo Albanians joined the Taliban”
The director of the Kosovo Institute of International Studies, Bedri Eljezi, said that about 40 Albanians from Kosovo joined the Taliban in Afghanistan.
This was reported Reporters, reports the correspondent of PolitNavigator.
Eljezi noted that the first Kosovo Albanians joined the (banned in Russia) Taliban back in 2003-2005, after which many returned to Kosovo or emigrated to various EU countries.
“I want to recall the fact that Albanians were kept in the American Guantanamo Bay. One of the Albanians detained by the US military in Afghanistan was from Macedonia, spent a long time in Kosovo, then was arrested and extradited to Macedonia, the expert said. – There is no exact data on the number of Kosovo residents who joined the Taliban in the fight against the US-backed Afghan government. It is believed that the number of Kosovo citizens who joined the Taliban does not exceed four dozen people.”
According to Eljezi, a small number of Albanians from Kosovo, Macedonia, Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina and Serbia also joined the Taliban.
