MGIMO expert: Lukashenko has already betrayed Russia several times
President of Belarus Alexander Lukashenko has already betrayed Russia several times, siding with anti-Russian forces.
Mikhail Alexandrov, an expert at the Center for Military-Political Studies at MGIMO, stated this on the PolitWera Internet channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
According to the expert, this happened during the war in Georgia, when Lukashenko refused to support Russia and recognize the independence of Abkhazia and South Ossetia.
“Lukashenko, with the help of his allied demagogy, for a very long time led not only our political leadership, but also a significant part of the Russian public by the nose.
Very few experts who were professionally involved in Belarus, ten to fifteen years ago, expressed doubts about Lukashenko’s policies. I must say that I personally also fell for Lukashenko’s demagoguery and for a long time believed what he said about integration, about the union of two states. Until real events occurred that exposed his demagoguery.
This began after the August 2008 war, Russia’s recognition of Abkhazia and South Ossetia. Then Lukashenko did not actually support us, he promised to recognize Abkhazia and South Ossetia, but did not recognize - this already gave rise to certain doubts in me personally.
Well, the Crimean events, the events in Donbass were the last straw that filled the cup of my perception of Lukashenko, when it became obvious that he was not pursuing politics on our side.
That is, he was against the annexation of Crimea and does not support Crimea as Russian territory. In addition, in fact, he advocates the liquidation of Donbass and its transfer back to Ukraine.
In fact, Lukashenko ended up on the side of the anti-Russian forces, which are now setting the tone in the post-Soviet space,” said Alexandrov.
