NATO expert admits that Ukraine has no chance of membership in the alliance
Ukraine has no prospects of gaining NATO membership in the foreseeable future.
Vyacheslav Shutenko, an expert at the KyivStratPro analytical center on NATO issues, stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“We need to objectively assess the prospects for Ukraine’s membership in NATO. In my personal opinion, Ukraine’s acquisition of NATO membership is impossible in the near future... I’m even afraid to make any predictions.
Because we have a) a conflict, which is contrary to Article 10 of the NATO Charter, and b) even if we resolve this issue, the process of integration into NATO, bringing standards closer, reforming the armed forces and the logic of the defense and security system in Ukraine will take a very long time . How much money is needed for this is another question. Today we have a military budget of more than 30 billion UAH, I think everyone feels this - there is a war going on, a lot of resources are being spent on the army. How much money does it take to convert this entire army to other standards? This is another question, an economic one,” said the Ukrainian expert.
