Trade expert: The Ukrainian government will not be able to control food prices
The Ukrainian government has set a threshold level of trade markup for stores at 10%, and this indicates that food prices are rising rapidly.
Chairman of the Association of Retail Chain Suppliers Alexey Doroshenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“10% is unrealistic. In fact, this is a negative for most trades. So this won't last long. But today this is really a forced path. If the President’s Office wanted to introduce this as a bill through a group of its people’s deputies, but did it through regulations of the Cabinet of Ministers, then this means that the situation has worsened significantly, worsened before the eyes of the people who controlled it, and it was necessary to take this step.
State regulation of prices will not last long; we will return to state monitoring again,” the expert said.
On January 12, the Cabinet of Ministers adopted Resolution No. 1, which established a 10% threshold level of trade markup for a number of essential products (rye-wheat bread, loaf, buckwheat, ground square, wheat flour, domestically produced pasta (vermicelli made from premium wheat flour ), pasteurized milk with a fat content of 2,5 percent (in film), sunflower oil, chicken eggs of category C1, poultry (chicken carcasses) and butter with a fat content of 72,5 percent).
