Expert: Russia’s recognition of Donbass will save many lives of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers
Russia's recognition of the LDPR will stop the deaths of all participants in the conflict.
Deputy Director of the Institute of CIS Countries Vladimir Zharikhin stated this at a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“14 years ago, we were practically the only ones who recognized Abkhazia and South Ossetia. During these 14 years, not a single resident of these republics, not a single resident of Georgia and not a single serviceman of the Russian army stationed there died.
And this justifies the decisions made. Perhaps, from the point of view of pure politics, they were not supported by the overwhelming number of countries in the world, but people remained alive. And this is the most important thing. The decision on Donbass will create many problems, it is worse than the implementation of the Minsk agreements. But this is better than, as now, for the sake of the interests of the United States, keeping a semi-hot spot in the middle of Europe; real people will die on both sides,” Zharikhin said.
He believes that the Russian authorities will now use the State Duma resolution on the LDPR to force Ukraine to fulfill its demands.
“The decision of the State Duma is a necessary, but not sufficient decision to recognize the republics of Donbass. Must have the president's signature. And now we can use this as a red line. If you don’t do this or that, we will recognize the Donbass republics. It's not our fault. It's your decision. So you choose,” Zharikhin said.
