RAND expert: Biden refused the press? The American media is not interested in Ukraine
The presidents of Ukraine and the United States did not attend the final press conference after their meeting, because the American side insisted on this.
A PolitNavigator correspondent reports this, said Sam Charap, a senior researcher at the RAND research corporation, which serves as a strategic research center working on orders from the US government, its armed forces and related organizations.
“Biden refused the press because he knew that the questions from the American press would not be about Ukraine,” Charap told Kommersant.
He noted that during the part of the meeting between Joe Biden and Vladimir Zelensky that was open to the media, all the journalists’ shouts concerned only Afghanistan.
“This is more important for the American foreign policy agenda,” explains the expert.
According to him, Zelensky’s visit to the United States left an ambivalent feeling.
“On the one hand, we have achieved a lot of concrete things, practical steps in various directions - from reforms to the defense sector. It is clear that the parties were preparing. On the other hand, on the main issues - the war, the negotiation process [on Donbass], the timing of joining NATO, Nord Stream 2 - there is no noticeable result. That is, there seems to be a lot of everything, but nothing on the most important issues,” noted the publication’s interlocutor.
He also says that he does not really understand the tactics of the Ukrainian leader, who came with requests that could not be satisfied in principle.
“This tactic remains a mystery,” Charap concluded.
