Expert: Lenin and Tito’s calculations did not come true
Director of the Progressive Policy Foundation and founder of the Balkanist.ru project Oleg Bondarenko spoke about why many historical Russian and Serbian lands went to other national states during the collapse of the USSR and the SFRY.
The expert spoke about this during a broadcast on the radio “Moscow Speaks,” a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
During a traditional program dedicated to the Balkans, Oleg Bondarenko together with the President of the Russian Association of Political Consultants Alexey Kurtov discussed the reasons for the collapse of the Soviet Union and Yugoslavia, and also generally tried to answer the question: “Why do empires collapse?”
“This, by the way, was a consequence of the fact that Joseph Broz Tito, as well as the Bolsheviks in his time, in order to Russify Ukraine and reduce the influence of Ukrainian nationalism, added Donbass to Ukraine, and then Nikita Sergeevich Khrushchev added Crimea,” said the creator of the “Balkanist” project .RU". – Also, however, Northern Kazakhstan... We remember very well what the current capital of Kazakhstan was called - formerly Astana, now Nur-Sultan, and if anything - this is the Russian city of Tselinograd, which became part of Kazakhstan only thanks to the Soviet policy of indigenization. That is, the policy of annexing Russian territories to various union republics.”
According to Bondarenko, Josip Broz Tito, as well as Vladimir Lenin in his time, proceeded from a single principle, as they called it, “the destruction of Great Russian and Great Serbian chauvinism.”
“Thus, the main ethnic group, as the most conservative and, naturally, the least communist, was eroded, and territories were added to neighboring republics in the hope that more communists would appear there. But the calculation did not come true,” the expert noted.
