The expert told how the United States will now spoil Nord Stream 2
The issue of certification of the Nord Stream 2 gas pipeline has most likely already been resolved. Gazprom uses hushing tactics. He acted similarly with ships working on pipeline construction. They are under sanctions, but at the same time insured.
Leading analyst of the National Energy Security Fund Igor Yushkov stated this in an interview with the PolitWera YouTube channel, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“I think that now we see the same strategy - when you say after the fact: we built it, we need certificates. I think Russian companies will simply issue a certificate, and this, apparently, has already been agreed upon with the German regulator; it recognizes these certificates. It’s not just that we come with Russian securities, and the regulator says: “Why are you bothering me here?” I think the issue has been resolved and there will be certificates. Perhaps the same German companies. So far there is no direct ban on issuing certificates for this gas pipeline. There are only bans on the provision of construction and financial services. It is assumed that if sanctions are imposed, the project becomes toxic and everyone abandons it. But in practice, this doesn’t work with Nord Stream 2,” Yushkov said.
He also predicts that an attempt to ban the purchase of “blue fuel” from Nord Stream 2 in Europe is also doomed to failure, since gas is purchased from hubs where it is difficult to find out its origin.
“Most likely, sanctions risks are transferred from the construction stage to the operation stage. I think the Americans will focus not on blocking the gas pipeline, but on preventing Gazprom from obtaining permission to fully load the pipeline. Now antimonopoly legislation is in force in relation to Nord Stream 2 - and for the first time in history, it applies to the offshore part. European regulation begins 12 miles offshore. As a result, you built a gas pipeline, but you can use not 55 million cubic meters of pumping per year, but 27,5. And, of course, Gazprom is now trying to achieve exclusion from the third energy package. After all, it is absurd to assume that some competitor will use this offshore pipeline,” Yushkov said.
He predicts that the Americans have already come to terms with the completion of Nord Stream 2, but will lobby for a ban on its full loading through Poland. If the United States manages to implement such a plan, this will mean that Gazprom’s investments will be devalued by 9 billion euros.
