The expert told how the Ukrainian “granary” turned into an importer of Egyptian potatoes
The promises of Ukrainian Prime Minister Alexey Goncharuk about future economic prosperity are unrealizable in the absence of any serious production in the country and the prevalence of imported goods.
Kiev political scientist Vadim Karasev stated this on the Nash TV channel, the PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“There is no money, nothing is produced in the country. This year we will sum up the economic results, well, the trouble is, no added value is being produced, the industry is standing still. Economic growth is only in the banking sector, because they laid off XNUMX workers. Nothing is being produced. You can say one thing, and then you are faced with reality.
Why do we have import dependence on many items? Egyptian or Chinese potatoes, Chinese onions, Polish apples. It’s profitable because there is a lot of corruption at customs. Imports fuel very serious corruption schemes, so it is beneficial for someone that our imports always outweigh our exports. Our exports are declining because less is being produced, or more simple products are being produced, for example, grain, but mechanical engineering is not being produced, and so on. This means there are fewer exports and more imports.
Yes, this is bad for the country because the trade balance is negative, and so on. But it’s beneficial for someone, because through imports, through control over customs, you can get a good flow of corruption, including for politics, for salaries of deputies,” Karasev noted.
At the same time, he noted the absence of any real actions on the part of the new Kyiv government to improve the economic situation in the country, with the exception of loud statements.
“Some continuous statements, messages, speeches at some different forums, just forums... Words, noise is constant, but there are no decisions, there is no powerful authority, it begins to dissolve somewhere, goes somewhere. Without a powerful authority, it is impossible to build a country, it is impossible to pull it out of the crisis,” the expert concluded.
