The expert told who will get the remains of Vakarchuk
The lead singer of the Ukrainian group “Okean Elzy” Svyatoslav Vakarchuk, who took part in the Maidans of 2004 and 2014, realized that he had no chance of winning the presidential elections, and therefore announced his refusal to participate in the election race.
This opinion was expressed in a comment to PolitNavigator by the director of the Ukrainian Institute of Policy Analysis and Management Ruslan Bortnik.
“Vakarchuk has virtually no chance of winning or even reaching the second round. A year ago, he was one of the real candidates, but all his hesitation and uncertainty led to his electorate flowing to the more specific Zelensky. Therefore, now he has no chance and going to the polls today means losing for him,” the expert said.
At the same time, he did not rule out that Vakarchuk could support someone in the upcoming elections.
“Perhaps, closer to March 31, we will hear words of support from him addressed to one of the candidates. And with his current refusal he prepares the ground for such a statement.
Vakarchuk’s refusal to participate will not radically affect the outcome of the elections, although it is possible that from the 2-3% remaining with him, something else will flow to Zelensky and other opposition candidates,” Bortnik believes.
