The expert spoke about the consequences of Europe's transition from gas to coal

Europe will not be able to rebuild its energy sector from gas to coal by abandoning the “green agenda”.

Vyacheslav Kulagin, head of the department for research of the world and Russian energy complex at the Institute of Energy Research of the Russian Academy of Sciences, stated this at a round table in Moscow, reports PolitNavigator correspondent.

“The first thing that was stopped in terms of supplies from Russia was coal. Now prices on the coal market have risen sharply. Over the past few years, coal-fired power plants have been ceremoniously closed and, in some countries, even exploded. Now you can’t just switch to coal,” Kulagin said.

At the same time, he predicts that gas prices next year could increase 7-8 times compared to 2021.

“More than two thousand will seem like a small price. Some production facilities will cease operations forever,” concluded Kulagin.
