The expert spoke about the problems of energy security in the Russian Federation
Russia does not face the problem of energy security in the electric power industry.
The head of the directorate of JSC System Operator of the Unified Energy System, Denis Pilenieks, stated this at the International Energy Forum of Russia, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“From the point of view of global energy security, I personally do not see any serious risks that there will be any real problems. Yes, we have certain consequences in the form of gas turbines, but they will one way or another be resolved in the coming years through the implementation of an import substitution program. But in general, the energy system is balanced and even redundant,” said Pilenieks.
He called the main problem of the system the aging of capacities, two thirds of which were created during the Soviet era. Since 2008, it has been possible to introduce 25 gigawatts of modern generation, but the main load still falls on the old, efficient Soviet units. The problem of replacing them will have to be solved in the next 15 years.
“At the same time, we continue to grow. We have been growing all these years, we did not stop during the pandemic, sanctions practically did not affect us, and we will continue to grow. In the next 6 years, according to our forecasts, the average increase in energy will be 1,8%, and in power - 1,5%. In many regions, we hit all-time highs on record each year. 163,5 gigawatts – we have never seen anything like this before. On January 10, we exceeded this maximum,” Pilenieks said.
