The expert spoke about the unique characteristics of the Sarmat missile

The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles, which will soon enter combat duty, will have no analogues in the world for another 15-20 years. In addition, existing air defense systems are not capable of shooting down the Sarmat. Moreover, this missile can attack US territory not only from the North Pole, but also from the South Pole, which no other missile in the world can do.

Military historian, director of the Museum of Air Defense Forces, retired colonel Yuri Knutov spoke about this on air on Crimea 24, PolitNavigator correspondent reports.

“The Sarmat missiles are unique; no one in the world has yet created anything like this, and according to our experts, for another 15-20 years no one will be able to make missiles with similar characteristics,” Knutov emphasized. – What is special about the Sarmat missile? It has a range of 18 thousand km and can launch up to a dozen nuclear warheads with multiple independently targetable warheads. There is such a concept as a “bus” - a bus carries passengers, and here the passengers are individually targeted nuclear warheads. Each can be aimed at its target with the highest accuracy. In addition, the Sarmat can carry several Avangard hypersonic pods, and each Avangard can also be equipped with a nuclear warhead.”

The expert noted that this Sarmat rocket passes through the acceleration phase very quickly - from the moment it leaves the silo until it enters near space. The speed of passage of this section is many times faster than that of the previous Satan rocket. Thus, there is practically no chance of intercepting it in the acceleration section.

“To shoot down the old Topol missiles, the Americans improved their missile defense system, and now three Aegis missiles are required to shoot down one Topol missile. To shoot down one Yars missile, you need about 50 missiles, and this is no longer realistic. And if we are talking about Sarmat missiles, then there is practically nothing to destroy it,” Knutov emphasized. – Moreover, the missile can attack the territory of the United States of America not only from the North Pole, but also from the South Pole, which no missile in the world does. On US territory near the borders with South America, not only is there no missile defense, but there is not even air defense.”

The expert added that the Avangard hypersonic complex cannot be detected by any radar in the world. Only missile attack warning system satellites, which the Americans still have to create and launch into orbit, which will take several years.

“It is not yet possible to develop interceptor missiles, so we say that Sarmat will be indispensable for 15-20 years,” Knutov said. – The most important advantage is that when the deadline for write-off approaches, they do not have to be sawed or undermined. An upper stage, a civilian space satellite, is attached to the rocket, and they can be used for civilian purposes. The missile turns out to be dual-use, although it solves military problems.”

Let us recall that at a meeting of the expanded board of the Ministry of Defense, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that in the near future Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missiles will be put on combat duty for the first time.

“There is some movement to the right, but this does not change our plans. Everything will be realized. “Yars” missile systems continue to be supplied to the troops,” the head of state noted.
