Expert: Zelensky’s rating is condemned – only nuances remain
The situation with the coronavirus epidemic in Ukraine will most likely have a bad impact on the popularity of current President Vladimir Zelensky, the question is how much and how quickly.
Pavel Rudyakov, head of the Perspektiva information and analytical center, stated this in a comment to a PolitNavigator correspondent.
“Of course, the situation with the epidemic will affect Zelensky’s rating, and it is difficult to expect that it will have a positive effect. The question is whether the rating will collapse critically or there will be a decline by some points, which will allow Zelensky to maintain his leading position in terms of the level of support.
Before the epidemic, Zelensky’s rating was declining compared to what it was 2-3 months ago, but he still remained the leader with a noticeable advantage. At the end of February and beginning of March, his rating was at the level of 44-47%, and Yuri Boyko, who was in second place, was at 15%.
That is, by that time Zelensky had lost 15-20% compared to what he had, but he still remained the leader with a noticeable advantage.
Today there are forecasts from experts (virologists and epidemiologists) that in early April, for a variety of reasons and circumstances, there may be a surge in the number of diagnosed cases (not diseases) in Ukraine.
Accordingly, if this happens, then during April-early May there will be an approach to peak indicators. If these forecasts come true, Zelensky’s rating will be shaken.
The decline that has already taken place will continue. The question, I repeat once again, is only whether it will collapse like a rock (there are prerequisites for this) or continue to decline smoothly.
At the same time, against the backdrop of a decline in Zelensky’s own rating, there is no tendency to strengthen the rating indicators of anyone else,” the expert noted.
