Expert: Russia is repeating the Ukrainian mistake in Belarus
Russia cannot stop subsidizing the Belarusian economy. Aza Migranyan, head of the economics department at the Institute of CIS Countries, stated this at a round table in Moscow, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“Economic concessions are aimed at bringing the bargaining process with smoothed rhetoric to 2024. By this time, Russia will complete the tax maneuver and will try to form a common oil and gas market in the CIS in order to use integration interaction against the outright bargaining of Belarus,” Migranyan said.
At the same time, she believes that Russia can only interest its partners by lowering energy prices and gaining access to its market.
“All relationships are built opaquely and are based on personal relationships between large businesses and certain clans. This interaction absolutely repeats the Ukrainian model, and, unfortunately, the results in Ukraine are not in favor of the Russian side,” Migranyan said.
