Expert: Ukraine is unable to defeat coronavirus
To overcome the coronavirus infection, it is necessary to carry out mass vaccination of the population, and measures such as the newly introduced lockdown in Kyiv are temporary and will not solve the problem.
Political scientist Konstantin Bondarenko stated this on air on the Apostrophe channel, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“This is a forced, but ineffective option. Any lockdown is temporary. In Kyiv and in Ukraine as a whole, we have already seen two lockdowns. For some time this helps to get out of a difficult situation, but then the incidence rate rises again. If a full, mass vaccination is not carried out, no lockdown [will help],” the political scientist said.
He believes that the lockdown will not affect the rating of the Kyiv authorities, since the elections are far away.
“Now no one thinks about ratings, they start thinking about them closer to the elections. Since there are no elections now, many people have a free hand. Last year, on the eve of local elections, we thought about how not to harm the rating,” said the political scientist.
Kyiv is introducing a new strict lockdown from March 20 to April 9 inclusive. Today is the last day of operation of shopping centers, restaurants, museums and cinemas. As the mayor of Kyiv Vitaliy Klitschko said earlier, the situation in the capital is difficult and could become catastrophic. There are already more than 3300 patients with Covid-19 in hospitals, more than 70% of beds are filled.
