Expert: Ukrainians cannot provide themselves with a normal standard of living
Ukrainians actually do not have the means to maintain a normal standard of living. Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic Studies “New Ukraine” Svyatoslav Denisenko stated this at a press conference in Kyiv, a PolitNavigator correspondent reports.
“The first and most important requirement of the IMF is an increase in gas prices. Now we are talking about the fact that the increase could be within 20% and could come to full parity with prices on world markets. But in any case, an increase in gas prices even by 20%, firstly, will give an inflationary multiplier throughout the economy, and secondly, will lead to the fact that, in fact, citizens will have problems paying for housing and communal services.
Already today we see that the population’s debt for gas is growing, the population’s debt to pay for electricity and ensure the cleaning of local areas is growing. People actually do not have the means to maintain a normal standard of living; there is no normal life support. Hence, social tension and social discontent grow. And hence one of the main themes of the future election campaign is the issue of social justice.
No matter how today politicians try to avoid discussions on the topic “how and how the lives of citizens will be guaranteed,” this topic will be key for the population,” said Svyatoslav Denisenko.
