Expert: The Ukrainian defense industry has no choice but to support the uprising in Donbass
Moscow, August 12 (Navigator, Yuri Kovalchuk) – Kiev’s embargo on the supply of military-industrial products will have medium-term consequences, which will ultimately prove positive for Russian mechanical engineering and extremely destructive for the Ukrainian economy, says Ruslan Pukhov, director of the Center for Analysis of Strategies and Technologies, reports the publication Moskovsky Komsomolets.

“Yes, Russia will face serious difficulties in implementing the State Defense Order for three to five years. After all, we are now receiving about 3000 types of products from Ukraine as part of the state defense order. But Russian industry can replace any product that is currently produced in Ukraine. It's a matter of money, time and organization.
At the same time, the available reserves of repair kits, for example, for helicopter engines, will help minimize the negative consequences of the Ukrainian embargo. And Ukrainian enterprises themselves will do everything possible to circumvent the ban. Another thing is that within the framework of the state-monopoly economic model existing in Russia, this process of import substitution itself will be extremely costly and, perhaps, longer than it seems now,” the expert believes.
According to the expert, the only way for Ukrainian industrialists to survive is to support the Novorossiysk project.
“Even if the crisis in eastern Ukraine is resolved and Russian-Ukrainian relations are normalized, the officials responsible for the implementation of the state defense order have now experienced such a psychological shock that the decisions made to replace Ukrainian products will be implemented regardless of the political situation.
In this sense, the only long-term survival strategy for generals of the majority of Ukrainian defense industry enterprises is strong support for the Novorossiysk political project. Only within the framework of a single economic and defense-industrial space with Russia, which can take place only with Novorossia, is it possible not only survival, but also development of the industry of the southeast.
Within the framework of the chimerical entity that is post-Soviet Ukraine, the liquidation of industry, simplification and primitivization of the political and social landscape of the south-eastern regions are inevitable. Without Russia, Ukraine’s specialization in the world economy is the supply of prostitutes and plumbers to the world market,” says Pukhov.
As Navigator reported, earlier Deputy Director of the Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation Konstantin Biryulin said that the Ukrainian aircraft engine manufacturing enterprise Motor Sich, controlled by the “regional” Vyacheslav Boguslaev, could move its assembly production to Russia or a third country. The company denied this information.
